Saudi Arabia: A beheading in the making

Housemaid pushes 4-year-old child on boiling milk pot

An Ethiopian housemaid in Saudi Arabia pushed the four-year-old son of her employer on a boiling milk pot, causing severe burns to his body.

It was the latest in a series of attacks by Ethiopian domestic workers on children at their employer’s houses in Saudi Arabia, which last week said it was halting the hiring of housemaids from that east African country.

“A Saudi father reported his Ethiopian housemaid to the police after she pushed his four-year-old son on a boiling milk pot, inflicting severe burns on him,” the Arabic language daily Alsaudeh said in a report from the northern town of Skaka.

It said police arrested the unnamed maid while the boy was admitted to hospital for treatment. It did not mention the reason for the maid’s act.

Child pushed by maid on hot milk is dead

A four-year-old Saudi boy pushed by an Ethiopian housemaid on a boiling milk pot has died at hospital because of severe burns, a newspaper reported on Tuesday.

The boy was admitted to hospital in the northern town of Skaka on Sunday night with severe burns to his body and head and died at dawn on Monday, Sabq said, quoting police spokesman Brigadier Daman Al Diraan.

Police arrested the maid on Sunday after the boy’s father reported the incident, the latest in a string of deadly assaults by Ethiopian maids on their employer’s children.

Saudi Arabia, home to more than two million domestic servants, said last week it was halting the recruitment of Ethiopian housemaids.
