Bali Nine’s Renae Lawrence on bail after handing herself in to police in NSW

Bali Nine member Renae Lawrence has been released on bail after handing herself in to a NSW police station over outstanding 2006 arrest warrants. The convicted drug smuggler, 41, landed back in Australia on Thursday for the first time after being released from Bali prison after 13 years behind bars. Now, according to ABC News, Lawrence has fronted the Waratah police station near Newcastle where she was served with outstanding warrants and granted conditional bail. It’s claimed it relates to outstanding charges she faces over an alleged car theft in 2005, and an alleged high-speed police chase. “A 41-year-old woman reported to Waratah Police Station this afternoon in relation to outstanding warrants from 2005,” a NSW Police spokesperson told 9 News. “The warrants have been processed. The 41-year-old was granted conditional bail and will face Newcastle Local Court on December 6, 2018.” It comes after she was swarmed by reporters as she made her way through the ...

Bali Nine drug trafficker Renae Lawrence hands herself in to police

Just one day after Renae Lawrence returned to Australia after 13 years in an Indonesian prison, the Bali Nine drug trafficker has handed herself in to police over a number of outstanding warrants. A spokeswoman for NSW Police confirmed the 41-year-old attended the Waratah police station in suburban Newcastle on Friday afternoon "in relation to outstanding warrants issued in 2005." Ms Lawrence was allegedly involved in a police chase using a stolen car on the Central Coast on March 26, 2005, a month before she was arrested in Indonesia. Police claim on that date, Ms Lawrence stole a car from Sydney's inner west and drove north with fellow Bali Nine member Matthew Norman. The pursuit allegedly started in Enfield before the pair travelled through Turramurra, Mooney Mooney and Peats Ridge. The car was later stopped by police. By the time Gosford Local Court issued two warrants for her arrest in June that year, she was already in an Indonesian prison awa...

Fears for Renae Lawrence's life after she gave up vital information to help catch the other Bali Nine drug mules

Renae Lawrence arrived in Australia on Thursday morning after serving time. Lawrence was released from prison in Bali on Wednesday evening and deported. The 41-year-old co-operated with Indonesian officials upon arrest in Bali in 2005.  Bali Nine's Renae Lawrence might be free for the first time in more than a decade but her past will continue to haunt her. Lawrence was arrested in 2005 for drug smuggling and passed critical information about her co-accused to officials and was rewarded a shorter sentence.  Ringleaders Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran, the only two not caught with heroin, were sentenced to death. There are now concerns that she might face reprisals as her intelligence also led to several arrests of senior drug dealers in Australia.    Lawrence co-operated with Indonesian officials immediately after her 2005 arrest for smuggling 8.3 kilograms of heroin out of Indonesia.  She offered critical information to officials ab...

Bali Nine's Renae Lawrence touches down in Australia

Bali Nine drug smuggler Renae Lawrence has touched down in Australia for the first time in 13 years, landing in Brisbane after her release from prison in Indonesia. Lawrence was released from Bangli Prison yesterday, where she spent the last four years of her sentence before flying out of Denpasar International Airport late last night. The 41-year-old landed at Brisbane International Airport and was swarmed by media.  She appeared frustrated by the attention, lightly pushing one of the reporters out of the way as she tried to board a bus to the domestic terminal. While refusing to answer any of the reporters' questions in English, she appeared to mutter something in Indonesian Lawrence was arrested in April 2005 when she was caught at Bali Airport with 2.7 kilograms of heroin strapped to her body. She was convicted of drug smuggling and sentenced to life in jail, which was later reduced to 20 years on appeal. Six more years were taken off that sentenc...

Bali Nine member Matthew Norman speaks about Renae Lawrence release

Denpasar: Bali Nine member Matthew Norman, who is serving a life sentence in Kerobokan prison for drug smuggling, wishes his friend and fellow convicted drug smuggler Renae Lawrence "all the best of luck" on the eve of her release. Norman, at 32 the youngest member of the Bali Nine, spoke to Fairfax Media during a visit inside Kerobokan prison on Tuesday that came less than 24 hours before Lawrence's release from Bangli prison. "What’s going on with Renae, that’s her story. She was sentenced by the courts to 20 years and she has run her course. She has got her [sentence] remissions, she has done what she needs to do to get out," he said. "I wish her all the best of luck. For me, I’m still here with a life sentence and I’m still doing all that I can to better myself. I still have hope that my sentence will come down." Indonesia frees Bali Nine drug smuggler Renae Lawrence from prison

BANGLI: The first member of the “Bali Nine” heroin-trafficking gang was released from prison Wednesday after serving 13 years, in a case that caused a huge diplomatic rift between Indonesia and Australia. Renae Lawrence, 41, the only female member of the group, was arrested in 2005 when authorities caught her with 2.6 kg of heroin strapped to her body as she tried to fly out of the international airport on the holiday island of Bali. She was initially handed a life term, but her sentence was later reduced to 20 years and then further cut due to good behaviour. Surrounded by immigration officials and a swarm of media who jostled to get a picture of her, Lawrence left Bangli prison shortly after 5:00 pm (0900 GMT) and got into a waiting car. It is likely that Lawrence will be deported shortly after her release. “We’ll put her on a blacklist which bans her for life from ever coming back to Indonesia,” said Agato Simamora, head of Bali’s immigration department. Left behind to rot: Bali ‘Five’ to die in jail

“ The miserable have no other medicine But only hope: I have hope to live, and am prepared to die. ” ― William Shakespeare, Measure for Measure There have been two executions, one cancer death and a deportation. Now it’s down to the Bali Five, who may never get out of Indonesia alive. Executed, executed, dead, deported: the Bali Nine will soon be down to the Bali Five and none of those young men are ever likely to get out of Indonesia alive. Following the 2015 deaths by firing squad of Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran, the cancer death in May of Tan Duc Thanh Nguyen and Renae Lawrence’s imminent release, only five of the original drug conspirators remain. It is more than 13 years since nine young Australians made world headlines attempting to smuggle 8.3kg of heroin strapped to their bodies out of Bali’s Denpasar airport. The remaining five are still reasonably young men: Michael Czugaj and Matthew Norman, 32, Scott Rush and Si Yi Chen, 33, and Martin Stephens, 42....
