STARKE, Fla. (AP) — A man convicted of fatally stabbing a married couple during a 1990 robbery in South Florida is scheduled to be executed on Tuesday evening. Victor Tony Jones, 64, is set to receive a lethal injection starting at 6 p.m. at Florida State Prison near Starke under a death warrant signed by Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis. It would be Florida’s 13th death sentence carried out in 2025, further extending the state record for total executions in a single year.

The Jiangxi Provincial High People's Court on Wednesday upheld the death sentence handed down to Lao Rongzhi for her involvement in the deaths of seven people. The high court heard her appeal in August, nearly a year after the sentence was handed down by the Intermediate People's Court of Nanchang, Jiangxi. In addition to receiving the death penalty, Lao had her political rights stripped and all of her property confiscated for her role in the crimes, which also included robbery and kidnapping. The high court said that Lao and her ex-boyfriend, Fa Ziying, intentionally and illegally took the lives of others; used violence or threats for the purpose of gaining illegal possession of others' property; and kidnapped others for the purpose of extorting money or property. A man who blocked a motor vehicle using his motorcycle and robbed the occupants of mobile phones, cash and personal effects in Nairobi has been sentenced to hang. Michael Odhiambo was handed the death penalty by senior principal magistrate Philip Mutua of Kibera law courts after he was convicted for three counts of robbery with violence contrary to section 295 as read with section 296 (2) of the penal code. The convict had sought a lenient sentence claiming he is a family man with dependants but Mutua said the law provides for only one penalty – death sentence for the offence. Odhiambo had robbed Peter Kenyatta of Sh5000 and a mobile phone worth Sh14,000 on December 30, 2015. He also robbed John Karani and Peter Gichuhi of different amounts of money and mobile phones.
