The Union Government on Monday informed the Delhi High Court that an Indian woman, resident of Uttar Pradesh, who was on death row in Abu Dhabi, UAE, for alleged murder of a four month old child, was executed on February 15. The woman was awarded death sentence on July 31, 2023 and the same was upheld by the Court of second instance. She was languishing in Al Wathaba Central Jail. ASG Chetan Sharma informed Justice Sachin Datta that the woman was executed on February 15 and that her last rites will be held on March 05.

New information is coming to light in the case of a Dothan woman accused of putting her baby in a trash compactor in the heat of August. Jakayla Williams, 18, is charged with one count of Capital Murder. Police arrested Williams in late August after investigators said she threw her newborn baby in a dumpster with a trash compactor after secretly giving birth in her Dothan home. During a preliminary hearing Friday morning, state prosecutors revealed they would be seeking the death penalty. Williams’ defense team, comprised of Aimee Cobb Smith and Clay Wadsworth, is seeking a reasonable bond for their client, claiming she needs mental health treatment.

Mum convicted of killing baby in hostel toilet freed The Court of Appeal today released a 26-year-old woman after she spent almost 6 years behind bars for causing the death of her newborn in 2017. Nur Izzati Adi was convicted and sentenced to death by the Alor Star High Court in 2020 for murdering her baby through asphyxiation in the toilet on the third level of Kolej Pertanian Malaysia Bukit Kayu Hitam's hostel about 5.20pm. However, at today's proceedings, deputy public prosecutor Mohammed Mokhzani Faris Mokhtar told the appellate court that the Attorney-General's Chambers had accepted the accused's representation for the charge to be reduced to infanticide under Section 309A of the Penal Code.
