Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); March 3, 2023: Ghorban Ghorbanpour, a man sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for murder, was executed in Rasht Central Prison.
According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, a man was executed in Rasht Central Prison on March 2. His identity has been established as Ghorban Ghorbanpour who was sentenced to qisas for murder.
Hassan Abbasi and Ali Rezaei, two other prisoners sentenced to death for murder were also executed at the prison on February 23.
At the time of writing, his execution has not been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.
Those charged with the umbrella term of “intentional murder” are sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) regardless of intent or circumstances due to a lack of grading in law. Once a defendant has been convicted, the victim’s family are required to choose between death as retribution, diya (blood money) or forgiveness.
Khosro Mohammadi Secretly Executed for Drug Charges in Zahedan
Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); March 3, 2023: Khosro Mohammadi was secretly executed for drug-related charges in Zahedan Central Prison.
According to Hal Vash, a man was executed in Zahedan Central Prison on February 28. His identity has been reported as Khosro Mohammadi from Shiraz. He was sentenced to death for drug-related charges by the Revolutionary Court.
Khosro had been behind bars for over four years. His execution was carried out without her family or lawyer being notified.
At the time of writing, his execution has not been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.
On January 27, Iran Human Rights warned of the high number of drug executions currently being carried out in Iran. Of the 66 executions carried out in January, at least 43 (65%) people were executed for drug-related charges, none of which were officially announced.
Drug executions dramatically dropped between 2018-2020 following the Amendment to the Anti-Drug Laws in 2017. However, this reversed in practice in 2021 when numbers increased by five-fold and have continued to rise throughout 2022 and 2023.
Baluch Leila Bameri Secretly Executed for Drug Charges in Kerman
Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); March 3, 2023: Leila Bameri, a Baluch woman sentenced to death for drug-related charges, was secretly executed in Kahnouj Prison in Kerman.
According to Hal Vash, a Baluch woman was executed in Kahnouj Prison on February 27. Her Identity has been reported as Leila Bameri from Peng village. She was sentenced to death for drug-related charges by the Revolutionary Court.
Leila Bameri had two children and had been behind bars for over two years. Her execution was carried out without her family or lawyer being notified.
At the time of writing, her execution has not been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.
