In the early 1970s I was a North Carolinian, white boy from the South attending Union Theological Seminary in New York City, and working in East Harlem as part of a program. In my senior year, I visited men at the Bronx House of Detention. I had never been in a prison or jail, but people in East Harlem were dealing with these places and the police all the time. This experience truly turned my life around.

Iran | 2 Baluch Men Secretly Executed for Drug Offences in Kerman, 2 Executed for Drug Offences in Karaj, Man Executed for Murder in Yasuj, Man Executed for Drug Offences in Bandarabbas

2 Baluch men were secretly executed for drug-related charges in Kerman Central Prison.

According to Hal Vash, 2 men Baluch were executed in Kerman Central Prison on January 8. Their identities have been reported as 44-year-old Mohammad Rasoul Shehbakhsh (Notizehi) and a man only identified as Akhtar Mohammad (surname unknown), both from Zahedan.

An informed source was quoted as saying: “Mohammad Rasoul was arrested for drug charges after being shot 8 times in the abdomen and legs. He was sentenced to death without his lawyer. 

Even though the Supreme Court overturned the sentence 4 times, but Judge Ghorbani from Branch 1 of the Kerman Revolutionary Court told him, you have to be executed. He was transferred to solitary confinement with another Baluch named Akhtar Mohammad at around midday.”

Their executions were carried out without their families or lawyers being notified and the right to a last visit.

At the time of writing, neither of their executions have been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.

Man Executed for Drug Offences in Bandarabbas


Khalegh Khezrzadeh who was sentenced to death for drug-related offences, has been executed in Bandarabbas Central Prison.

According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, a man was executed in Bandarabbas Central Prison on January 9. His identity has been established as Khalegh Khezrzadeh who sentenced to death for drug-related charges by the Revolutionary Court.

An informed source told Iran Human Rights: “Khalegh Khezrzadeh was arrested around 3 years ago on charges of carrying narcotics and sentenced to death.”

At the time of writing, his execution has not been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.

Rashid Londpour Khedri Executed for Drug Offences in Karaj


Rashid Londpour Khedri who was sentenced to death for drug-related offences, has been executed in Karaj Penitentiary.

According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, a man was executed in Karaj Penitentiary on January 9. His identity has been established as Rashid Londpour from Khargoush village in Urmia, who was sentenced to death for drug-related charges by the Revolutionary Court.

An informed source told Iran Human Rights: “Rashid Londpour was arrested for drug charges around 5 years ago.”

At the time of writing, his execution has not been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.

Majid Sedaghat Executed for Murder in Yasuj


Majid Sedaghat who was sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for murder, has been executed in Yasuj Prison.

According to HRANA news agency, a man was executed in Yasuj Prison on January 8. His identity has been reported as Majid Sedaghat who was sentenced to qisas for murder.

At the time of writing, his execution has not been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.

Those charged with the umbrella term of “intentional murder” are sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) regardless of intent or circumstances due to a lack of grading in law. Once a defendant has been convicted, the victim’s family are required to choose between death as retribution, diya (blood money) or forgiveness.

Peyman Arab Gicheh Executed for Drug Offences in Karaj


Peyman Arab Gicheh who was sentenced to death for drug-related offences, has been executed in Karaj Penitentiary.

According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, a man was executed in Karaj Penitentiary on January 10. His identity has been established as Peyman Arab Gicheh, who was sentenced to death for drug-related charges by the Revolutionary Court.

He was arrested on the charges around 3 years ago per IHRNGO sources.

At the time of writing, his execution has not been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.
