Unnamed Man Executed for Murder in Mashhad

Official sources have reported the execution of a man for murder in Mashhad Central Prison.

According to Khorasan newspaper, a man was executed in Mashhad Central Prison on the morning of May 29. His identity has only been reported as 27-year-old Shahab (surname unknown) who was sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for murder.

He is alleged to have caused the death of three people through arson of a residential building on 21 February 2017.

According to data gathered by Iran Human Rights, at least 183 people were executed on murder charges in 2021. Those charged with the umbrella term of “intentional murder” are sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) regardless of intent or circumstances due to a lack of grading in law. Once a defendant has been convicted, the victim’s family are required to choose between death as retribution, diya (blood money) or forgiveness.

Unnamed Man Executed for Murder in Saveh


Official sources have reported the execution of an unnamed man for murder in Saveh. The exact location and date of the execution have not been specified.

According to the Saveh Nar news Telegram channel, a man was executed in Saveh in the last few days. The unnamed man was sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for the murder of a 75-year-old woman whom he is alleged to have killed to steal gold from on 29 July 2019.

The report does not specify the exact location and date of the execution.
