Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); May 23, 2022: Mohammad Morad Fazeli, sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for murder, has been executed in Shirvan Prison.
According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, a man was executed in Shirvan Prison (North Khorasan province) on May 22. His identity has been established as 37-year-old Mohammad Morad Fazeli who was sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for murder.
An informed source told Iran Human Rights: “Mohammad Morad had two children and had been in prison for around five years on charges of murder over a farming land dispute.”
At the time of writing, his execution has not been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.
According to data gathered by Iran Human Rights, at least 183 people were executed on murder charges in 2021. Those charged with the umbrella term of “intentional murder” are sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) regardless of intent or circumstances due to a lack of grading in law.
Once a defendant has been convicted, the victim’s family are required to choose between death as retribution, diya (blood money) or forgiveness.
Unnamed Man Executed for Murder of Rangers in Zanjan
Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); May 23, 2022: Official Iranian media have reported the execution of an unnamed man for the murder of two rangers in Zanjan Central Prison.
Quoting the Zanjan province judiciary, state-run Tasnim has reported the execution of a man in Zanjan Central Prison on May 23. The unnamed man was sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for the murder of two rangers in the protected Fileh Khaseh area in Zanjan on 5 April 2021.
According to data gathered by Iran Human Rights, at least 183 people were executed on murder charges in 2021. Those charged with the umbrella term of “intentional murder” are sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) regardless of intent or circumstances due to a lack of grading in law.
Once a defendant has been convicted, the victim’s family are required to choose between death as retribution, diya (blood money) or forgiveness.
Abdolbari Rigi and Ms Hayati Executed in Shiraz
Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); May 23, 2022: Abdolbari Rigi, a Baluch man sentenced to death for drug-related charges and Ms Hayati, a woman sentenced to qisas for murder, were both executed in Shiraz Central Prison yesterday.
According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, a woman and a Baluch man were executed in Shiraz Central Prison on May 22. The man’s identity has been established as 32-year-old Abdolbari Rigi who was sentenced to death on drug-related charges.
The identity of the executed woman has only been established as Ms Hayati and she was sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for the murder of her husband.
Speaking to Iran Human Rights about Abdolbari Rigi’s case, an informed source said: “Abdolbari was supposed to have his last visit with his family on Saturday but they executed him without notifying his family. He was held in the solitary confinement of the Ershad (punitive) ward for 48 hours.”
At the time of writing, neither of their executions have been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.

Baluch Mossadegh Malahi Executed for Drug Charges in Minab
Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); May 23, 2022: Mossadegh Malahi, a Baluch man sentenced to death for drug-related charges, was executed in Minab Prison.
According to the Baluch Activists Campaign, a Baluch man was executed in Minab Prison on May 23. His identity has been reported as Mossadegh Malahi from Bandar Kalahi in Minab.
Mossadegh Malahi was arrested for drug-related offences around four years ago and sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court. He was deprived of the right to say goodbye to his family as his execution was carried out without his family being notified.
At the time of writing, his execution has not been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.

Mohammad Sorkhrou and Abbas Kamali Executed in Minab Prison
Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); May 23, 2022: Following news of Mossadegh Malahi’s execution in Minab Prison earlier today, new reports show that Mohammad Sorkhrou and Abbas Kamali were also executed on drug-related charges at the prison today.
According to Hal Vash, three Baluch men were executed in Minab Prison on May 23. Their identities have been reported as Mohammad Sorkhrou from Minab, Mossadegh Malahi from Kalahi and Abbas Kamali from Jasak.
Mossadegh Malahi’s execution was reported earlier today.
At the time of writing, none of their executions have been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.
