Iranian authorities have executed five prisoners on charges of “murder” and “drug-related offenses” in prisons across Karaj, Sari, Tabriz, Gorgan, and Malayer amid an alarming rise in executions across the country.
According to reports documented by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Rasoul Karimi, 42, was executed at Qezelhesar Prison in Karaj on Wednesday, September 30, 2026. He was married, had one child, and had previously been arrested on “murder” charges.
Two other prisoners were executed that day on “murder” charges. Hosseinali Baranzehi, a 51-year-old Baloch man from Aq Qala in Golestan Province and father of three, was executed at Gorgan Central Prison. Shahram Fazlollah Tabar, 35, a father of two, was executed at Sari Central Prison. They had been arrested nine and four years earlier, respectively, and subsequently sentenced to death by the Iranian judiciary.
Shahin Babaei, a 27-year-old Turk, was executed at Tabriz Central Prison on Monday, September 28. He had been arrested five years earlier on “drug-related offenses” and subsequently sentenced to death.
Mehdi Ahangari, a Lor man from Malayer in Hamadan Province, was also executed that day at Malayer Central Prison. He had been sentenced to death on “murder” charges.
Neither Iranian state media nor judicial authorities have publicly announced any of the five executions.
Execution in Urmia
Mostafa Sharifi, a 45-year-old Kurdish prisoner from Piranshahr, has been executed in Urmia Central Prison (Darya Prison) after being sentenced to death on “drug-related offenses” charges.
According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the execution took place at dawn on Saturday, October 3, 2026.
Sharifi, who was married and the father of three children, had been arrested five years earlier on drug-related charges and subsequently sentenced to death by the Iranian judiciary.
Neither Iranian state media nor judicial authorities have announced his execution.
