The country's Interior Ministry announced this in a statement on Wednesday. According to the report, they were sentenced over allegations of involvement in immoral acts inside a mosque in Mecca.
The information was reported by Ajel News, citing the Saudi Interior Ministry's statement. The two Bangladeshis executed were a man and a woman, Nazrul Islam Abdul Basir and Sithi Akhter.
Saudi statements and reporting treat it as a violation of the sanctity of the mosque by a man and a woman, punished by ta’zir (discretionary) death.
The statement said law enforcement detained the two individuals immediately after the incident, on allegations of engaging in immoral acts inside a holy mosque in Mecca.
After the investigation concluded, charges were filed against them in court.
The trial court later found them guilty after hearing the case and handed down the death sentence. The statement said the verdict took into account the gravity of the offense and the violation of the mosque's sanctity.
The report said the sentence was carried out by royal decree after the higher courts and relevant authorities upheld the death sentence.
In its statement, the Saudi Interior Ministry said the government is committed to ensuring security, establishing justice, and enforcing the law against acts that desecrate the sanctity of mosques. It also warned that anyone involved in such crimes would face strict legal action.
