As clock ticks toward another Trump presidency, federal death row prisoners appeal for clemency

President-elect Donald Trump’s return to office is putting a spotlight on the U.S. penitentiary in Terre Haute, which houses federal death row. In Bloomington, a small community of death row spiritual advisors is struggling to support the prisoners to whom they minister.  Ross Martinie Eiler is a Mennonite, Episcopal lay minister and member of the Catholic Worker movement, which assists the homeless. And for the past three years, he’s served as a spiritual advisor for a man on federal death row.

Iran | Execution of 12 Prisoners in One Week. At Least 78 Prisoners Were Executed in December

In fear of the spread of the uprising and the inevitable overthrow of his regime, Ali Khamenei continues executions incessantly.

On the morning of December 28, Khamenei’s mercenaries sent to the gallows a prisoner named Ebrahim Ajali, who was injured by the prison guards’ direct fire during the prisoners’ riot in Karaj Central Prison, along with Daud Yousefi, who was also in solitary confinement after the attack on the prison. They were hanged in that same prison.

On December 17, when prisoners in Karaj Central Prison protested the transfer of four prisoners to be executed, repressive forces opened fire on the prisoners and killed and injured a number of them.

On the same day, 2 prisoners Hamid Nejati and Mohsen Nejati were hanged in Gohardasht prison, also a prisoner named Davood Rahmat Ali, a citizen of Afghanistan, in Adel Abad prison in Shiraz, and another prisoner named Hossein Taati in Hamadan prison.

On December 26, another prisoner Hamed Ebrahimi was hanged in Isfahan Central Prison, and a prisoner named Elias Raisi was hanged in Zahedan Prison.

On December 23, an inmate named Nizamuddin Burhanzahi was hanged in Iranshahr prison, and on December 22, three prisoners were hanged in Adel Abad prison in Shiraz.

As such, the number of executions in December 2022 amounts to at least 78.

The Iranian Resistance emphasizes again the need for immediate action by the United Nations, the European Union, and its member states to force the mullahs’ regime to stop executions and killings, and for the international delegation to visit the regime’s prisons and meet with the prisoners.

The mullahs’ regime with the highest number of executions far from other countries should be rejected by the world community and its officials should be brought to justice for 4 decades of genocide and crimes against humanity.
