Iran | 6 Executed for Drugs in Shiraz, 2 Executed for Rape in Qazvin, 5 Executed for Drugs in Mashhad

Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); October 6, 2022: Six men were executed for drug-related charges in Shiraz Central Prison over two days.

According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, four men were executed in Shiraz Central Prison on October 2. Their identities have been established as Hashem Mahmoudzadeh, Yousef Ali-Chalani, Abbas Fathalian and Heydar Ramezani. They were all sentenced to death for drug-related charges by the Revolutionary Court.

An informed source told Iran Human Rights: “Hashem Mahmoudzadeh was arrested for carrying drugs four years ago and sentenced to death. Yousef Ali-Chalani was from Kazeroun and also on death row for drugs. Abbas Fathalian was from Shiraz and had been behind bars.”

The next day, two other men were executed at the prison for drug-related charges. Their identities have not been established at the time of writing.

At the time of writing, none of their executions have been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.

According to reports compiled by Iran Human Rights, at least 126 people were executed on drug-related charges in 2021, a fivefold increase compared to drug executions in the previous three years. This trend has continued into 2022, with 91 executions recorded in the first six months of 2022, double the number for the same period in 2021 when 40 people were executed.

At least 251 including 6 women and 67 Baluch minorities were executed in the first six months of 2022. This is double the number of executions in the same period in 2021 when 117 people were executed.

Kiumars Parvaneh and Hassan Hojati Executed for Rape


Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); October 6, 2022: Kiumars Parvaneh and Hassan Hojati who were sentenced to death for rape in the same case, were executed in Qazvin Central Prison.

According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, two men were executed in Qazvin Central Prison on September 28. Their identities have been established as Kiumars Parvaneh and Hassan Hojati who were sentenced to death for rape in the same case.

An informed source told Iran Human Rights: “These two prisoners were arrested less than two years ago and sentenced to death. Their sentence was immediately upheld by the Supreme Court.”

At the time of writing, their executions have not been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.

In cases of rape, there is a high chance of defendants being tortured to make false confessions, which is used to issue death sentences. In Iran is one of the few countries in the world that issues the death penalty for rape. A lot of cases are also rushed without the defendants having access to a lawyer.

According to Iran Human Rights’ Annual Report on the Death Penalty, at least 10 people were executed for rape charges in 2021.

Five Men Including Four Baluch Minorities Executed for Drug Offences in Mashhad


Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); October 4, 2022: Five men including four Baluch minorities were executed for drug-related charges in Mashhad Central Prison.

According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, five men were executed in Mashhad Central Prison on October 2. They were all sentenced to death for drug-related charges by the Revolutionary Court.

Four of the men were Baluch minorities and their identities have been reported by Hal Vash as: Asef Shibak, 20-year-old Saeed Shibak, Ramezan Mazarzehi and Avaz Bilrani.

At the time of writing, none of their executions have been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.
