Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); January 14, 2022: Mohammad Jafar Salehi and Abdolrahim Sargolzayi sentenced to death on drug-related charges and Shahin Khosravi, sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for murder, have been executed in Isfahan Central Prison.
According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, three men were executed in Isfahan Central Prison on the morning of January 13.
Their identities have been established as Mohammad Jafar Salehi, 33-year-old Abdolrahim Sargolzayi and Shahin Khosravi (known as Shahin Lori).
Mohammad Jafar Salehi and Abdolrahim Sargolzayi were sentenced to death on drug-related charges and Shahin Khosravi was sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for murder.
An informed source told Iran Human Rights: “Mohammad Jafar had been behind bars for carrying drugs for around four years. Mohammad Jafar and his brother-in-law were arrested for carrying methamphetamine and heroine but his brother-in-law received a ten-year prison sentence as a secondary defendant in the case.”
“Abdolrahim Sargolzayi was from Zahedan and was sentenced to death for carrying 80 or 90 kilograms of drugs. He had said that the drugs didn’t belong him and he was just the driver. The drug belonged to the person who gave him the car. He had two small children and had spent a year in Najaf Abad Prison prior to being transferred to Isfahan Central Prison,” the source added.
Speaking about Salar Khosravi, the source said: “Salar was from a village in Lorestan and had been arrested and sentenced to qisas for murder in 2017.”
At the time of writing, none of their executions have been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.
According to Iran Human Rights’ Annual Report on the Death Penalty in Iran, at least 25 people were executed on drug-related charges in 2020.
On December 10, Iran Human Rights warned again of the rise in drug-related executions, which is now at a four-year record high and called on the international community for a prompt reaction.
