Iran Human Rights (IHR); September 8, 2021: A prisoner only named as Nouramad, who had been sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for murder, was executed in Mashhad Central Prison.
According to Rokna, a man was executed in Mashhad Central Prison on September 5.
He has only been named as 45-year-old Nourahmad, known as Keramat and had been sentenced to qisas for murder.
Rokna reports that Nourahmad was arrested in November 2018 when he was 42 and homeless and sentenced to death for the murder of an 81-year-old man.
According to Iran Human Rights’ Annual Report on the Death Penalty, at least 211 of the 267 people executed in 2020 were sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for "premeditated murder."
As there are no legal distinctions made between murder and manslaughter, whether voluntary or involuntary in Iran, those charged under the umbrella term of “premeditated murder” will receive the death penalty regardless of the intent and circumstances.
