Iran Human Rights (IHR); July 7, 2021: A 21-year-old death row prisoner sentenced to
qisas (retribution-in-kind) for murder, was executed in Mashhad Central Prison on Monday.
According to the official Khorasan newspaper, a man was executed in Mashhad Central Prison on July 5. Sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for murder, he has only been identified as 21-year-old Mehdi.G.
Mehdi is reported to have killed one of his friends while he was drunk after a wedding in a village in Khorasan Razavi on 19 August 2019, when he was 19 years old.
The newspaper had previously reported the executions of a 37-year-old man identified as M and a 70-years-old man identified as A.A in Mashhad Central Prison on June 30.
According to Iran Human Rights’ Annual Report on the Death Penalty, at least 211 of the 267 people executed in 2020 were sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for "premeditated murder."
As there are no legal distinctions made between murder and manslaughter, whether voluntary or involuntary in Iran, those charged under the umbrella term of “premeditated murder” will receive the death penalty regardless of intent and the circumstances.
Faizollah Ahmadzadeh Executed on Drug Charges in Qom
Iran Human Rights (IHR); July 7, 2021: A prisoner named Faizollah Ahmadzadeh who was sentenced to death on drug-related charges has been executed in Qom Central Prison. At least 43 prisoners, including one woman, have been executed on drug-related charges in Iranian prisons in 2021.
According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, a man was executed in Qom Central Prison in the early hours of this morning. His identity has been established as Faizollah Ahmadzadeh who was sentenced to death on drug-related charges.
Speaking to IHR, an informed source said: “Faizollah Ahmadzadeh was married and had a child. He was arrested around four years ago on charges of carrying about 100 kilograms of methamphetamine and sentenced to death.”
At the time of writing, his execution has not been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.
According to Iran Human Rights’ Annual Report on the Death Penalty in Iran, at least 25 people were executed on drug-related charges in 2020. However, at least 43 people have so far been executed on the same charge in 2021.
On May 3, IHR published a
report on the death penalty in the first four months of 2021 expressing concern at the significant increase in the number of drug-related executions and continues to warn of the continuation of this trend.
Unidentified 70-year-old Retired Policeman Executed in Mashhad
Iran Human Rights (IHR); July 6, 2021: A 70-year-old man sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for murder, was executed in Mashhad Central Prison on June 30.
Another man was reported to have been executed at the same prison on the same charge and the same day.
According to the official Khorasan newspaper, a man was executed in Mashhad Central Prison on June 30. Sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for murder, he has only been identified as 70-year-old A.A.
He is reported to have been a retired traffic police colonel and had received the death penalty for murdering “his 38-year-old wife on Hashemieh Boulevard in Mashhad.”
The newspaper had previously reported the execution of a 37-year-old man only identified as M, who was executed on the same charge, on the same day and in the same prison.
