Iran: An Endless String of Hangings

Iran Human Rights (IHR); October 17, 2018: Three prisoners were hanged in Iranian cities of Maragheh and Isfahan on murder charges.

According to the IHR sources, on the morning of Tuesday, October 16, Mowloud Shah-Hosseini, 29, from the Iranian city of Divandarreh, was executed at Isfahan Central Prison. He was convicted to death on both murder and drug-related charges. However, the execution was carried out for the murder charge.

On the same day, another prisoner, Behrouz Ansari Lenjan, was executed at Isfahan Central Prison. A source close to the prisoner, told IHR, "Behrouz was convicted to death for murdering a man whose name was Majid. Majid owed Behrouz 7 million Tomans. They fought and unfortunately, Majid was killed."

Another prisoner, Aslan Shirani, 33, was executed on Sunday, October 14, at Maragheh Prison. He was from the Iranian city of Miandoab and was executed on murder charges. A well-known source told IHR, "Aslan's business partner, Hatam, owed him 45 million Tomans. They could not solve their financial disputes; they fought and Aslan killed his business partner during the fight. This happened three years ago."

The Iranian media outlets have not published news related to the aforementioned executions so far.

Man Hanged at Ilam Prison

Iran Human Rights (IHR); October 17, 2018: A prisoner was executed at Ilam Central Prison on murder charges this morning.

According to the IHR sources, the prisoner identified as Kourosh (Ali) Behzadian. The source told, "Kourosh was married with two sons. He was addicted to Methamphetamine. Six years ago, Kourosh broke into a neighbour's house for robbery. He killed the elderly neighbour woman and also hit her husband into the head. The man went into a coma, however, he survived and told who was the attacker."

The Iranian media outlets have not published news related to the aforementioned execution so far.

Man Hanged at Ferdows County Prison

Iran Human Rights (IHR); October 17, 2018: A prisoner was executed at Ferdows County Prison on murder and armed robbery charges last Sunday.

According to HRANA, on Sunday, October 14, a prisoner named Ayyub Jahandar, 28, from Torbat Heydariye city, was hanged at Ferdows County prison.

According to the prisoner's relatives, "Mr Jahandar was accused of murdering a person during an armed robbery that happened six years ago. His brother also convicted to 15 years of imprisonment for assisting Ayyub in the robbery."

Ferdows County is a county in the north of South Khorasan Province in Iran. Around 300 prisoners are held in the county's prison.

The Iranian media outlets have not published news related to the aforementioned execution so far.

Two Men Executed in Shahrekord Prison

Iran Human Rights (IHR); October 15, 2018: Two Prisoners were executed on murder charges at Shahrekord prison yesterday morning.

HRANA identified the aforementioned prisoners as Saleh Dehkordi, 38, and Yarali Nouri, 40.

Saleh Dehkordi was in prison for 7 years for murdering a person and convicted to qisas (retribution in kind).

The Iranian media outlets have not published news related to the aforementioned execution so far.

According to Iran Human Rights annual report on the death penalty, 240 of the 517 execution sentences in 2017 were implemented due to murder charges. There is a lack of a classification of murder by degree in Iran which results in issuing a death sentence for any kind of murder regardless of intensity and intent.

Saudi Arabia: Man beheaded for murder

April 27, 2010: Saudi authorities executed a man by beheading after he was sentenced to death for murder, the interior ministry announced. Saudi national Umair al-Shihri was put to death in the southern city of Bisha for shooting to death another Saudi, Muzakkir al Shahrani, with a machine gun, according to the announcement carried by the state news agency SPA. No details were given about the date or location of the crime, but the ministry said the execution had been put on hold until the victim's children came of age. Former Florida cop to be executed on same day as 80-year-old Pasco man

In an unprecedented move in the modern history of capital punishment, Gov. Ron DeSantis on Tuesday cleared the way for 2 executions to occur on the same day. DeSantis reset the execution of James Duckett, whose execution earlier this year was stayed amid efforts to secure DNA testing and analysis of evidence in his case. Duckett’s execution was reset for July 28. That is the same day previously set for the execution of Dominick Occhicone. Court records indicate that Duckett’s execution is scheduled for noon. Occhicone’s is set to follow at 6 p.m.

Idaho | Death row prisoners sue over state's new firing squad

BOISE (Idaho Statesman) – Days after Idaho made the switch to a firing squad for executions, two Idaho death row prisoners next in line to be put to death sued the state prison system, saying its director withheld information about how she settled on the specifics for carrying out the method. Attorneys for prisoners Thomas Creech and Gerald Pizzuto filed suit this week in state district court against Idaho Department of Correction Director Bree Derrick. In the filing, they called her approval of an updated standard operating procedure for the firing squad and lethal injection as a backup method “arbitrary, capricious, or an abuse of discretion and in excess of the statutory authority of the agency.”

Tennessee | Complaint accuses doctor involved in failed execution of violating medical ethics

A formal complaint has been filed with the Tennessee Department of Health regarding the conduct of a physician involved in the failed execution of death row inmate Tony Carruthers on May 21, 2026. The complaint, submitted by Carruthers’ sister, Tonya Hervey on July 15, alleges that Dr. Mark Walton Fowler engaged in unethical medical practices during the aborted procedure. The state’s attempt to execute Carruthers was halted after execution team members spent over an hour unsuccessfully attempting to establish a backup intravenous (IV) line. While a primary line was established, the team’s failure to secure the secondary access required by state protocol led Governor Bill Lee to grant a one-year reprieve.
