Biden Fails a Death Penalty Abolitionist’s Most Important Test

The mystery of Joe Biden’s views about capital punishment has finally been solved. His decision to grant clemency to 37 of the 40 people on federal death row shows the depth of his opposition to the death penalty. And his decision to leave three of America’s most notorious killers to be executed by a future administration shows the limits of his abolitionist commitment. The three men excluded from Biden’s mass clemency—Dylann Roof, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, and Robert Bowers—would no doubt pose a severe test of anyone’s resolve to end the death penalty. Biden failed that test.

Iran: Seven Prisoners Executed Today - 23 Executions In 2 Days- 9 Executions In Public

Iran Human Rights, November 8: Seven prisoners were hanged in Shiraz (southern Iran) today Thursday November 8, reported the Iranian state media. According to the official reports one prisoner was also hanged in the prison of Mashhad (northwestern Iran) yesterday.

15 other prisoners were hanged in three Iranian cities yesterday. All together 23 prisoners have been executed since yesterday according to the official Iranian sources. Nine of these executions have been carried out in public.

Seven prisoners were hanged in Shiraz today- Five of them hanged in public :

The state run Iranian news agency Fars reported that five prisoners were hanged publicly in the city of Shiraz today. According to the Iranian state broadcasting two other prisoners were hanged in the Adelabad prison of Shiraz early this morning. All the seven prisoners were convicted of drug related charges.

The prisoners who were hanged publicly in Shiraz today were according to the report identified as: Parviz K., Majid D., Feyz Mohammad M., Ali M. and Reza D.

The two other prisoners hanged inside the Adelabad prison today were not identified by name.

One prisoner was hanged in the prison of Mashhad yesterday:

According to the official website of the Iranian judiciary in the Khorasan Razavi Province, a prisoner was hanged in the Vakilabad prison of Mashhad yesterday Wednesday November 7. The prisoner, who was identified as "M. P." was convicted of possession and distribution of narcotic drugs, said the report.
