Iran has hanged a man in a prison in southwestern city of Ahvaz who was convicted of drug trafficking, the ISNA news agency reported on Monday.
The man, identified only as Karim Kh. was executed on Saturday, the report said without giving other details.
The latest hanging brings to 93 the number of executions reported in Iran so far in 2011, according to an AFP count based on media reports. The authorities say 80% of those executed have been drug traffickers.
Iran media reported 179 hangings last year. In 2009, Iran executed 388 people, according to international human rights groups, making it 2nd only to China in the number of people it put to death.
The Islamic republic says the death penalty is essential to maintain law and order and is applied only after exhaustive judicial proceedings.

One man executed in southwest of Iran
Iran Human Rights, April 11: One man was hanged in the southwest Iranian city of Ahwaz, reported the state run Iranian news agency Fars today.
The man who was identified as "Karim Kh." was convicted of keeping 220 grams of heroin according to the report.
The execution took place on Saturday April 9th inside the prison of Ahwas, said the report.
Iran Human Rights emphasizes that people charged with drug related offences in Iran are tried in revolutionary courts behind closed doors and charges are not confirmed by independent sources.
