Branch 23 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court has sentenced three individuals arrested during the January 2026 protests—Amirreza Rezaei, Vahid Gahramani, and Mehdi, a cleric whose surname has not been disclosed—to death.
HRANA reported that the sentences were officially served to the three prisoners in detention on Monday, October 26.
Mehdi has also been sentenced to death in a separate case by the Special Court for the Clergy on the charge of “apostasy.” He previously served as a member of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and now faces two separate death sentences across two distinct legal cases.
The three prisoners were transferred on Wednesday, October 28, from Greater Tehran Penitentiary to Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj. They were arrested individually during the January protests.
The published report did not detail the evidentiary basis presented by the court for issuing the capital sentences or the defense arguments provided by the accused.
Earlier, Viviana Krsticevic, a member of the United Nations Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on Iran, stated during a session of the UN General Assembly’s Third Committee on Wednesday, October 28, that more than 100 individuals, including women and children, currently face the death penalty in connection with the protests.
