Iran executes protester accused of acting for Israel, US

Iranian authorities secretly executed Majid Adineh, who was arrested during the January 2026 protests and subsequently sentenced to death, at a prison in Alborz province.

According to information obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Adineh was executed at dawn on August 23, 2026, in Karaj.

Mizan, the Iranian judiciary’s official news agency, reported the execution and said Adineh had been arrested by forces of the Intelligence Organization of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in the Mohammadshahr area of Karaj during the January 2026 protests.

Iranian state media accused Adineh of possessing items including a handgun and of having links with groups based outside Iran.

The Karaj Revolutionary Court tried Adineh on charges including “operational activities in support of Israel, the United States, and hostile groups,” “moharebeh” (waging war against God), “assembly and collusion against national security," and “propaganda against the state.” He was sentenced to death and the confiscation of his property.

No information regarding Adineh’s arrest, prosecution, or death sentence had been made public before his execution.
