EASTLAND, Texas — Cody Pritchard received the death penalty today for the shooting death of Eastland County Deputy David Bosecker back in 2023.
According to court documents, the Eastland County Sheriff's Office responded to an emergency call involving a disturbance in Rising Star.
When a deputy attempted to enter the property to respond to the call, Cody Pritchard crashed a car into the patrol unit before shooting the deputy.
Court documents state that Deputy David Bosecker was pronounced dead on the scene and Pritchard admitted to the crimes and was charged with Capital Murder.
Statement from Sheriff Jason WegerEastland County Sheriff’s Office:
On July 21, 2023, our county lost one of its own when Deputy David Bosecker was murdered while responding to a domestic violence call. He was doing exactly what he was sworn to do—protect others—when his life was taken by Cody Pritchard.
Last week, a jury found Pritchard guilty of Capital Murder of a Peace Officer. Today, the jury sentenced him to death. He was immediately transferred to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in Huntsville.
This has been a long, painful road. From the moment we lost David, nothing about this process has been easy—especially for his family. No verdict and no sentence can ever replace a husband, a father, a son, or a friend. But today brings accountability, and it brings the closing of a chapter that has weighed heavily on so many.
I want to thank the citizens of Eastland County for standing with us. Your support for law enforcement and, more importantly, for Deputy Bosecker’s family has never wavered. The prayers, messages, and quiet acts of kindness have mattered more than you know.
I also want to thank the jury for their service and for carrying the heavy responsibility placed before them. Their willingness to listen, deliberate, and make a difficult decision is not something I take lightly.
Deputy David Bosecker served this county with honor, courage, and dedication. He will always be a part of this office, and he will never be forgotten.
