Iran | Executions in Jiroft, Khorramabad, Ilam, Babol, Karaj, Isfahan

Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); September 29, 2025: Mahmoud Nazari and Saeed Parsayi, two men on death row for drug-related offences, were executed in Jiroft Prison.

According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, two men were hanged in Jiroft Prison on 28 September 2025. Their identities have been established as Mahmoud Nazari from Isfahan and Saeed Parsayi from Shiraz.

They were arrested six years ago and sentenced to death on drug-related charges by the Revolutionary Court in separate cases.

At the time of writing, their executions have not been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.

Drug-related executions have continuously risen every year since 2021. According to IHRNGO’s 2024 Annual Report on the Death Penalty, at least 503 people were executed for drug-related charges, of which only under 3% were announced by official sources. 17% of all drug-related executions in 2024 were Baluch minorities while they represent 2-6% of Iran’s population. At least 426 people were executed for drug-related offences in the first eight months of 2025.

Executions in Khorramabad

Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); September 29, 2025: Younes Ahmadi, Mehdi Veisi and Ghodrat Nazari, three men on death row for separate murders, were executed in Khorramabad Central Prison.

According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, three men were hanged in Khorramabad (Parsilion) Central Prison on 27 September 2025. Their identities have been established as 27-year-old Younes Ahmadi from Kouhdasht, 30-year-old Mehdi Veisi from the village of Baba Gardali in Kouhdasht, and 46-year-old Ghodrat Nazari from Khorramabad. They were arrested six, five and eight years ago respectively and sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for separate murders by the Criminal Court.

At the time of writing, their executions have not been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.

Those charged with the umbrella term of “intentional murder” are sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) regardless of intent or circumstances due to a lack of grading in law. Once a defendant has been convicted, the victim’s family are required to choose between death as retribution, diya (blood money) or forgiveness.

Crucially, while an indicative amount is set by the Judiciary every year, there is no legal limit to how much can be demanded by families of the victims. IHRNGO has recorded many cases where defendants are executed because they cannot afford to pay the blood money. Should the victim’s family choose execution, they are not only encouraged to attend, but also to physically carry out the execution themselves.

According to IHRNGO’s 2024 Annual Report on the Death Penalty, at least 419 people including a juvenile offender and 19 women, were executed for murder charges, the highest number of qisas executions since 2010. Only 12% of the recorded qisas executions were announced by official sources. In 2024, Iran Human Rights also recorded 649 cases of families choosing diya or forgiveness instead of qisas executions. In the first eight months of 2025, at least 375 people were executed for murder charges in Iran.

Execution in Ilam

Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); September 29, 2025: Ali Saberi, a man on death row for murder, was executed in Ilam Central Prison.

According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, a man was hanged in Ilam Central Prison on 24 September 2025. His identity has been established as 30-year-old Ali Saberi from Ilam.

He was arrested for four years ago and sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for murder by the Criminal Court.

At the time of writing, his execution has not been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.

Execution in Babol

Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); September 28, 2025: State media reported the execution of an unnamed man for murder charges in Babol Prison.

According to the judiciary’s Mizan News Agency, a man was hanged in Babol Prison on 28 September 2025. The unnamed man was arrested for the murder of his five-year-old child and mother-in-law two years ago and sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for murder by the Criminal Court.

Group hanging in Karaj

Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); September 26, 2025: Meisam Karami was executed for murder in a group hanging of four in Ghezel Hesar Prison.

According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, a man was hanged in Ghezel Hesar Prison on 24 September 2025. His identity has been established as Meisam Karami, a 35-year-old Lor man who was arrested six years ago and sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for murder.

IHRNGO previously reported the executions of Farshad Geravand, Ahmadreza Geravand and a man only identified as Amir for drug-related offences, bringing the total number of executions to four at the prison that day.

At the time of writing, their executions have not been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.

Execution in Khorramabad

Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); September 26, 2025: Kazem Jamshidi, a man on death row for drug-related offences, was executed in Khorramabad Central Prison.

According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, a man was hanged in Khorramabad Central Prison on 21 September 2025. His identity has been established as 29-year-old Kazem Jamshidi from Khorramabad.

He was arrested four years ago and sentenced to death on drug-related charges by the Revolutionary Court.

At the time of writing, his execution has not been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.

Group hanging in Isfahan

Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); September 24, 2025: Ali Keshavarz, Sajad Aslani, Ahmad Bakhtiar and Keyvan Rahmati were executed in a group hanging in Isfahan Central Prison.

According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, four men were hanged in Isfahan (Dastgerd ) Central Prison on 24 September 2025. Two of the men were sentenced to death on drug-related charges. Their identities have been established as 30-year-old Ali Keshavarz from the Qashqai tribe in Shiraz, and Sajad Aslani. Ali was arrested four years ago and Sajad, four years ago.

The other two men were sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for murder. Their identities have been established as Keyvan Rahmati, a 27-year-old man from Hamedan, and Ahmad Bakhtiar, a 45-year-old man from Isfahan who was known as “Taghi Ghasab.” Ahmad was arrested for a murder with a firearm seven years ago.

Oklahoma board recommends clemency for inmate set to be executed next week

A voting board in Oklahoma decided Wednesday to recommend clemency for Tremane Wood, a death row inmate who is scheduled to receive a lethal injection next week at the state penitentiary in McAlester. Wood, 46, faces execution for his conviction in the 2001 murder of Ronnie Wipf, a migrant farmworker, at an Oklahoma City hotel on New Year's Eve, court records show. The recommendation was decided in a 3-2 vote by the Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board, consisting of five members appointed by either the governor or the state's top judicial official, according to CBS News affiliate KWTV. According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, four men and a woman were hanged in Shiraz (Adel Abad) Central Prison on 17 December 2025. Their identities have been established as Mahin Rashidi, a 39-year-old woman, Abbas Alami, 43, Naser Faraji, 38, Tohid Barzegar, 51, and Jamshid Amirfazli, 45, all Kashan natives.
