The incidents took place in Chittagong in 2020

A Chittagong court has sentenced a madrasa teacher to death for raping four children of the institution.

Judge Zainal Abedin of the Third Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal in Chittagong delivered the verdict in the presence of Nasir Uddin, 47, on Sunday.

The convict was sent to jail after the verdict, the tribunal’s prosecutor, Ziku Barua, said.

According to the charge sheet, the four students of a madrasa at Rangunia in Chittagong were raped on October 12, 2020. 

Later, the father of one of the children filed the case against Nasir Uddin.

The tribunal indicted the teacher on January 24, 2022, and started the trial. 

It recorded the statements of 11 witnesses before delivering the verdict.

Court sentences five people to death in murder case

A court in Joypurhat today sentenced five people to death in the murder case of Abu Hossain in the Panchbibi upazila of the district. 

Judge Nurul Islam of Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-2 of Joypurhat announced this verdict on Monday (February 19) morning.

The convicts are – Rabbani, Rafiul, Mozaffar Hossain, Mocha. Sahida Begum, and Mocha. Amina Begum.

According to the case details, on March 25, 2010, at 9 am at the Dargapara village in Panchbibi Upazila, the accused attacked Abu Taher due to previous enmity when he was clearing straw from the pile in front of the house. 

When Abu Taher’s son Abu Hossain came forward, the accused also beat him. When he was seriously injured, the accused fled. 

Locals rescued Abu Hossain and first admitted him to Panchbibi Upazila Health Complex and later to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College (SZRMCH) in Bogura. 

When his condition worsened, Abu Hossain was hospitalized in Dhaka. He died there while undergoing treatment. The victim’s father, Abu Taher, filed a case in the name of 9 people with the Panchbibi police station on April 4 of that year. 

After the hearing, the court sentenced five people to death. At the same time, each was fined Tk 50,000. One in five is absconding.
