In the early 1970s I was a North Carolinian, white boy from the South attending Union Theological Seminary in New York City, and working in East Harlem as part of a program. In my senior year, I visited men at the Bronx House of Detention. I had never been in a prison or jail, but people in East Harlem were dealing with these places and the police all the time. This experience truly turned my life around.

Iran | 5 executed in Arak prison

5 prisoners executed in Arak prison

The death sentence of 5 prisoners named Saeed Moghadam, Sajjad Yousefi, Nasser, Reza, and Nasser Iranshahi were carried out in Arak prison on drug charges.

An informed source told the Iranian Human Rights Society: “These five people were arrested and sentenced to death on charges of carrying drugs.”

There is no information about other details or the duration of imprisonment of these prisoners.

Including the execution of these five prisoners, the number of executions since the beginning of the Iranian year 1401 has reached at least 417 people.

This is while the actual number of executions is more than this number and many death sentences are carried out secretly and no one is informed about it.

It is worth mentioning that on Tuesday, November 8, two prisoners were executed in Zahedan prison on charges of murdering several military officers. With the efficiency of Gholamhossein Mohseni Ajei and Ebrahim Raisi, the speed of executions has increased shockingly.

Earlier, the judiciary had requested to speed up executions in a circular.
