Iran | Four Executed for Drug Offences in Arak

Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); September 2, 2022: Mohammad Hassan Kahrari and Morteza Teimouri were executed for drug-related offences in Arak Central Prison.

According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, two men were executed in Arak Central Prison on August 31. Their identities have been established as 27-year-old Mohammad Hassan Kahrari and 28-year-old Morteza Teimouri. Their families were not notified of their scheduled executions and denied the right to a last visit.

Mohammad Hassan was from Kermanshah and had been arrested for drug-related charges around two years ago. Morteza was from Garmi village in Lorestan and was arrested for the same offence in a separate case.

At the time of writing, neither execution has been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.

According to reports compiled by Iran Human Rights, at least 126 people were executed on drug-related charges in 2021, a fivefold increase compared to drug executions in the previous three years. This trend has continued into 2022, with 91 executions recorded in the first six months of 2022, double the number for the same period in 2021 when 40 people were executed.

At least 251 including 6 women and 67 Baluch minorities were executed in the first six months of 2022. This is double the number of executions in the same period in 2021 when 117 people were executed.

Mohammad Khosravi executed for drug-related offences in Arak Central Prison along with Hamid Ghareh Lar

According to newly obtained information by Iran Human Rights, another man was executed in Arak Central Prison on August 31. His identity has been established as 30-year-old Mohammad Khosravi who was sentenced to death for drug-related charges by the Revolutionary Court.

An informed source told Iran Human Rights: “Mohammad Khosravi was arrested for charges of carrying drugs around three years ago. He was arrested with two others but he was the only one to receive the death penalty. His co-defendants were sentenced to 10 and 14 years.”

Iran Human Rights previously reported the execution of Hamid Ghareh Lar at the prison on that day.

At the time of writing, neither execution has been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.

According to the judiciary’s Mizan News Agency , the plaintiffs in the case of Goli Kouhkan, have agreed to forgo their right to execution as retribution. In a video, the victim’s parents are seen signing the relevant documents. Goli’s lawyer, Parand Gharahdaghi, confirmed in a social media post that the original 10 billion (approx. 100,000 euros) toman diya was reduced to 8 billion tomans (approx. 80,000 euros) and had been raised through donations and charities.

Iran carries out public hanging of "double-rapist"

Iran on Tuesday publicly executed a man after convicting him of raping two women in the northern province of Semnan. The execution was carried out in the town of Bastam after the Supreme Court upheld the verdict, the judiciary's official outlet Mizan Online reported. Mizan cited the head of the provincial judiciary, Mohammad Akbari, as saying the ruling had been 'confirmed and enforced after precise review by the Supreme Court'. The provincial authority said the man had 'deceived two women and committed rape by force and coercion', adding that he used 'intimidation and threats' to instil fear of reputational harm in the victims.
