Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); July 13, 2022: Farzad Garavand and Mohammad Hatami who were sentenced to death for moharebeh for an armed robbery, were executed in Karaj Penitentiary this morning.
According to Rokna quoting the Alborz Province Chief Justice, two men sentenced to moharebeh (enmity against god) through an armed robbery, were executed in Karaj Penitentiary.
While the report does not name the men or specify their date of execution, Iran Human Rights has established their identities as 27-year-old Farzad Garavand and 28-year-old Mohammad Hatami who were executed on July 13.
Iran Human Rights had previously warned of their imminent execution after they were transferred to solitary confinement in preparation for the gallows.
An informed source previously told Iran Human Rights: “Mohammad Hatami was a shepherd in a village with two small children. They told him he could earn good money by accompanying them on a trip somewhere. He was tricked into the armed robbery. Mohammad and Farzad Garavand were arrested on charges of armed robbery with several other people around ten months ago. No gold was stolen from the gold shop and nobody was scratched but they want to execute them now.”
Unidentified Man Executed for Murder in Mashhad
Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); July 13, 2022: Official sources have reported the execution of a man named as Ali Ch for the murder of a “senior intelligence police officer” in Mashhad Central Prison.
According to Mashregh, a man was executed in Mashhad Central Prison on July 12. His identity has only been revealed as 34-year-old Ali Ch (surname unknown) who was sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for the murder of a “senior intelligence police officer.”
Per the report, the executed man had shot Colonel Seyyed Javad Jafarian (then head of the Violent Crime Department of the Khorasan Razavi Intelligence Police) with a hunting rifle and injured his brother in September 2020.
According to data gathered by Iran Human Rights, at least 183 people were executed on murder charges in 2021. Those charged with the umbrella term of “intentional murder” are sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) regardless of intent or circumstances due to a lack of grading in law. Once a defendant has been convicted, the victim’s family are required to choose between death as retribution, diya (blood money) or forgiveness.
Rasoul Moradgholi Executed for Drug Offences in Sari
Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); July 13, 2022: Rasoul Moradgholi was executed for drug-related charges in Sari Central Prison.
According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, a man was executed in Sari Central Prison on the morning of July 12. His identity has been established as Rasoul Moradgholi who was sentenced to death for drug-related charges by the Revolutionary Court.
An informed source told Iran Human Rights: “Rasoul Moradgholi was arrested on drug charges three years ago. He was the brother Hassan Moradgholi, a member of the Kermanshah City Council.”
At the time of writing, his execution has not been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.
According to reports compiled by Iran Human Rights, at least 126 people were executed on drug-related charges in 2021, a fivefold increase compared to drug executions in the previous three years. This trend has continued into 2022, with 91 executions recorded in the first six months of 2022, double the number for the same period in 2021 when 40 people were executed.
Mehdi Karimi Executed for Murder in Sari
Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); July 12, 2022: Mehdi Karimi, a man sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for murder, was executed in Sari Central Prison.
According to HRANA news agency, a man was executed in Sari Central Prison on July 6. His identity has been reported as Mehdi Karimi who was sentenced to qisas for murder. Mehdi was a hairdresser prior to his arrest.
At the time of writing, his execution has not been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.
