According to Iran Human Rights, a 25 year old man was executed in Shiraz Central Prison on May 15. His identity has been established as Behzad Adl, who was handed three death sentences on charges of “adultery by force reluctance.”
Behzad Adl was arrested on 21 June 2020. Speaking to IHR, an informed source said: “Behzad Adl’s confession was extracted under torture by electrically shocking him several times and beating him up, he had denied all the charges in court.”
He was sentenced to three years imprisonment and two years in exile on the charge of “making obscene videos” on Instagram, five years imprisonment and seven years of “social deprivation” on the charge of “kidnapping” and three death sentences on the charge of “adultery by force and reluctance” by Branch 101 of the Shiraz Criminal Court presided over by Judge Asghar Rahimi.
It was upheld by the Supreme Court within 18 days.
“Behzad’s charge of kidnapping was reduced to “deception of kidnapping” by the court and two of the plaintiff’s in the case had announced that they were willing to grant forgiveness prior to his execution. But they still pulled up Behzad on that noose three times and his body was left hanging for two hours. The family still don’t have his body, they are scheduled to pick it up tomorrow and take it to their hometown of Isfahan,” the informed source further told IHR.
His family were able to visit him for the last time on Friday.
At the time of writing, his execution has not been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.
In cases of rape, there is a high chance of defendants being tortured to make false confessions, which is used to issue death sentences.
In Iran is one of the few countries in the world that issues the death penalty for rape.
A lot of cases are also rushed without the defendants having access to a lawyer.

Man deprived of fair due process executed on alleged rape charges after confessing under torture
The man, identified as 25-year-old Behzad Adl was transferred to solitary confinement along with three other death row prisoners to await his death sentence.
Behzad Adl was executed in the prison’s courtyard today after beeing convicted of rape, a charge that he had previously denied.
He was arrested on June 21, 2020, and received 3 death sentences and 99 lashes on rape charges.
His case was referred to the Supreme Court after he appealed the verdict and was approved in less than 18 days.
According to an informed source, “the death sentence of Behzad Adl was carried out very hastily while 2 of his 3 plaintiffs had withdrawn their complaint on Wednesday. The father of the 25-year-old died earlier and he did not have a lawyer in this case.”
The issuance, approval and implementation of this sentence has taken place in less than 7 months.
According to the indictment of Branch 1 of Fars Province, which was issued on October 13, 2020, Behzad Adl had stated that he had confessed to the charges after being threatened with the murder of his mother during interrogation.
Behzad Adl was executed while 2 of the 3 plaintiffs had withdrawn their complaint on Wednesday.
Behzad's father died earlier and he did not have a lawyer. 100s are being subject to unfair trials in #Iran every year.
Death sentences are issued based on torture-tainted ‘confessions.
In Iran the death penalty is imposed for, among other things, murder, rape, armed robbery and drug trafficking.
In rape cases, executions are carried out particularly quickly.
The clerical regime has been the focus of international criticism for many years because of the many executions it carries out.
It executed at least 255 people in 2020, upholding its place as one of the world’s top executioners, with around 57 of these people killed for crimes other than murder, including political actions, drug offenses, sexual offenses, drinking alcohol, robbery, and the vague “waging war on God.”
Those executed included at least 6 juvenile offenders, 8 women, and 12 political prisoners, including champion wrestler Navid Afkari.
Of course, given the secrecy of the regime, these figures were reported by human rights activists inside Iran who risked their lives. We can assume that all of the figures in this report are a minimum.
