Iran | Islamic Prosecutor Demands Death Penalty For Alcohol Drinker

ICBPS- The deputy of Islamic prosecutor has demanded the death sentence for a retired pilot who drank alcohol.

The 73-year-old man has been arrested in the Iranian capital Tehran on charges of “drinking alcohol and drunk driving”, and since he has been arrested three times before on charges of “drinking alcohol”, the Islamic judicial authorities are seeking a death sentence for him.

The veteran has refused the accusation, the judiciary-run new ROKNA reported.

Since the Khomeinist regime took power in the 1979 Islamic Revolution, under Shari’a law, alcoholic consumption has been strictly forbidden in the country.

Alcohol, however, is readily available on the black market, despite the severe penalties.

Under the law, it is forbidden for Iran’s Muslim [born] citizens to consume hard liquors. Consuming alcohol for Muslims in Iran is considered as a crime under Sharia law, which is punishable by lashes, fine, or death under certain conditions.

According to Article 136 of the Islamic Penal Code, “Whenever a Muslim [born] commits a crime three times and causes a [Hudud] punishment, and each time the punishment is imposed on the person, the punishment in the fourth time would be capital punishment.”

Capital punishment (death penalty) is a legal penalty in Iran.

The charges punishable by death penalty [under Shari’a law] include murder, rape, child molestation, pedophilia, drug trafficking, armed robbery, kidnapping, terrorism, burglary, incestuous relations, fornication, prohibited sexual relations, sodomy, prostitution, plotting to overthrow the Islamic Republic of Iran, political protest, sabotage, arson [with extensive destruction], rebellion, apostasy, adultery, blasphemy, extortion, counterfeiting, smuggling, speculating, disrupting production, recidivist consumption of alcohol, producing or preparing food, drink, cosmetics, or sanitary items that lead to death when consumed or used, producing and publishing pornography, using pornographic materials to solicit sex, recidivist theft, certain military offenses (assisting the enemy), “waging war against God” [Moharebeh], “spreading corruption on Earth” [Ifsad fil-arz], espionage, and treason.

Authorities in Iran can amputate the hand [or fingers] of convicted thieves as a punishment.
