Iran Human Rights (IHR); June 8, 2020: A death-row prisoner has been executed in the central prison of Shahrekord, the capital city of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province.
He was sentenced to qisas (retribution) for murder charges.
According to the Iranian state TV news, a man was hanged recently in Shahrekord prison.
The exact date of the execution has not been mentioned in the news piece.
Shahrekord prosecutor told the Young Journalists Club, “The prisoner, N.A, was from the city of Lordegan and sentenced to death around three years ago.”
According to IHR’s Annual Report on the Death Penalty in Iran, at least 280 people were executed in Iran in 2019, including 225 for murder charges.
There is a lack of a classification of murder by degree in Iran which results in issuing a death sentence for any kind of murder regardless of intensity and intent.
