Biden Commuted Their Death Sentences. Now What?

In the days after President Joe Biden commuted his death sentence, 40-year-old Rejon Taylor felt like he’d been reborn. After facing execution for virtually his entire adult life for a crime he committed at 18, he was fueled by a new sense of purpose. He was “a man on a mission,” he told me in an email on Christmas Day. “I will not squander this opportunity of mercy, of life.”

Young Prisoner Hanged in Public in Northwestern Iran

Iran Human Rights (JAN 8 2016): Late morning on Thursday January 7, a prisoner was hanged in public on murder charges.

According to Iran state run media Tabnak, a 25-year-old prisoner was hanged in public at a city square in Shabestar (located in the Iranian province of East Azerbaijan).

The report does not mention the name of the prisoner.

Unofficial reports identify the prisoner as Reza Jalili Alishahi.

According to photos IHR retrieved from Alishahi's execution, young children were present among the crowd who showed up to watch the hanging.
