Reverend Dr. Jeff Hood, 40, lives with his wife and five children in Little Rock, Arkansas. But away from his normal home life, he can suddenly find himself holding the shoulder of a murderer inside an execution chamber, moments away from the end of their life. 

Iran | Executions in Qom, Tabriz

Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); February 13, 2024: Abuzar Taher Arab, an Iraqi national on death row for murder, was executed in Qom Central Prison.

According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, an Iraqi national was executed in Qom Central Prison on 12 February. His identity has been established as 38-year-old Abuzar Taher Arab from Mosul.

He was arrested for the murder of his employer around three years ago and sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for murder.

An informed source told Iran Human Rights: “Abuzar had been working for the man for four months but he wouldn’t pay him. He’d committed the murder during an argument.”

At the time of writing, his execution has not been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.

Those charged with the umbrella term of “intentional murder” are sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) regardless of intent or circumstances due to a lack of grading in law. 

Once a defendant has been convicted, as the plaintiffs, the victim’s family are required to choose between death as retribution, diya (blood money) or forgiveness.

Man executed in Tabriz


Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); February 11, 2024: State media reported the execution of an unnamed man for murder charges in Tabriz Central Prison.

According to Rokna, a man was executed in Tabriz Central Prison. The report does not specify the exact date and identity of the man.

He was accused of killing another man with a firearm in November 2019 and sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for murder.
