Ohio | Dad Accused of Executing His 3 Sons Kept Away from Other Prisoners for Own Safety

Chad Doerman, 32, has been indicted on 21 charges in connection with the shooting deaths of his young boys and is awaiting trial at Ohio's Clermont County Jail

Chad Doerman, the Ohio dad accused of killing his three young sons in an execution-style shooting in June, is behind bars at the Clermont County Jail awaiting trial in July 2024.

While in lockup, Doerman, 32, has been a "model citizen," Judge Richard Ferenc said during a court hearing last month. But he's also been isolated from other prisoners who might want to harm an alleged killer dad.

"Mr. Doerman has not been disruptive in any fashion at the county jail," Judge Ferenc said. "He has not caused any problems. He has been in my courtroom twice and been very compliant."

Indeed, there have been no disciplinary issues regarding Doerman, according to a jail spokesperson, who confirmed to The Messenger that he's kept away from other inmates for his own safety.

Doerman was known for a "bad temper, really bad," according to one friend. Another told The Messenger earlier this year, "there was so much anger there."

A review of a list of prisoners housed with Doerman shows most are jailed for drug and property crimes, though several have been charged with violent offenses such as assault, battery and sexual assault.

"Everyone wants to kick his ass," says the inmate, who was charged with drug possession and released last week. "He's the lowest of the low. If I had a shot at him, I'd take it."

Another former prisoner, Alberto Reyes, says even the most hardened criminals are shocked by Doerman's alleged crimes.

"He's scum," Reyes said. "He needs to be taken out. Anyone who does that to children doesn't deserve to live."

The Messenger has reviewed a "Bill of Particulars" filed by authorities, which enumerates allegations in the case against Doerman, whose boys — Clayton, Hunter, and Chase — were killed at their Monroe Township, Ohio, home on June 15.

Doerman began his murderous spree in the afternoon, according to the affidavit.

First, according to authorities, he shot 4-year-old Hunter inside the house.

Then, they say, he chased after his 7-year-old son Clayton, who fled the residence. About 300 feet from the house, he allegedly gunned down the boy from behind, killing him.

"Then he went after the 3-year-old," Clermont County Prosecutor Mark Tekulve said in court last June, referring to the youngest brother, Chase. "There was a struggle with the mother. He ripped the child from the mother's arms."

Doerman allegedly shot Chase in the head, killing him as well.

He was indicted on 21 charges: nine counts of aggravated murder, eight counts of kidnapping and four counts of felonious assault.

Doerman has pleaded not guilty and is being held without bond. He faces the death penalty if he's convicted.
