Alabama Gives Casey McWhorter Execution Date of November 16, 2023

Casey McWhorter is scheduled to be executed anytime between 12:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 16, 2023, and 6:00 a.m. on Friday, November 17, 2023, at the Holman Correctional Facility near Atmore, Alabama.

49-year-old Casey is convicted of murdering Edward Lee Williams, Sr., on February 18, 1993, in Albertville, Alabama.

For the last 29 years, Casey has resided on Alabama’s death row.

Casey had a difficult childhood, especially following his parent’s divorce. Before his arrest, Casey had a good reputation and a good work record.

Shortly after the new year in 1993, Casey McWhorter, then 18 years of age, conspired with a 15-year-old and 16-year-old who became his codefendants. The 3 began conspiring to kill and rob a victim, Edward Williams, Sr. The 15-year-old was Edward’s son. They believed Edward possessed a substantial sum of money.

On February 18, 1993, a 4 th codependent who was aware of the plan, dropped the McWhorter and the 16-year-old off a few blocks from Edward’s home. The driver and Edward’s son remained in the car. The 2 groups had a prearranged plan to meet at a certain location at 8 p.m. that evening.

McWhorter and the 16-year-old proceeded to the house, knowing that Edward was not due home for 3 to 4 hours. During that time, the duo went through the home, gathering the items they wanted to take. They also made silencers for the 2 rifles they found in the home.

When Edward arrived home, he saw the 16-year-old with the rifle and attempted to grab it. The 2 struggled over the rifle until McWhorter shot Edward. Before fleeing the scene, Edward was shot at least 11 times, including 1 round into the back of his head, ensuring that Edward died. Before leaving, they stole his wallet from his person and left with the other items they had collected in Edward’s truck.

McWhorter and the 16-year-old met the others at the prearranged location. The stolen truck was driven into the woods and stripped. All items were split between the 4 people. Shortly after the murder, one of the teens went to the police and confessed.

2 of the codefendants agreed to plea deals. Edward Williams Jr., is currently serving life in prison, without the possibility of parole. McWhorter was sentenced to death.

Pray for peace for the family of Edward Williams, Sr. Pray for strength for the family of Casey McWhorter. Please pray for all affected. Pray that if Casey is innocent, lacks the competency to be executed, or should not be executed for any other reason, that evidence will be presented before his execution. Pray that Casey finds peace through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
