MANILA, Philippines — The case of Mary Jane Veloso, a Filipina on death row in Indonesia for drug trafficking, has spanned over a decade and remains one of the most high-profile legal battles involving an overseas Filipino worker. Veloso was arrested on April 25, 2010, at Adisucipto International Airport in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, after she was found in possession of more than 2.6 kilograms of heroin. She was sentenced to death in October – just six months after her arrest. Indonesia’s Supreme Court upheld the penalty in May 2011.

Singapore | Indian-origin man accused of killing two

Indian-origin man Aswen Pachan Pillai Sukumaran is accused of killing Mohd Israt Mohd Ismail at the Concorde Hotel and Shopping Mall on Sunday. 

The report states that Asven Pachan Pillai Sukumaran will be given the death penalty if found guilty of murder. 

A conviction for rioting with a deadly weapon is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

A 29-year-old Indian-origin man in Singapore has been charged with murder on Tuesday. 

According to the allegation, a man had died in a hotel brawl. The main accused is Aswen Pachan Pillai Sukumaran of Indian origin.

Another six people were charged with rioting with a deadly weapon, and a seventh was charged with voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon, Channel News Asia reported. 

Asven Pachan Pillai Sukumaran is accused of killing Mohd Israt, Mohd Ismail at the Concorde Hotel and Shopping Mall on Sunday, reports The Straits Times. 

Aswan appeared in court on Tuesday via video link.

The report states that Asven Pachan Pillai Sukumaran will be given the death penalty if found guilty of murder. A conviction for rioting with a deadly weapon is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

If the seventh person is convicted of voluntarily causing hurt by a dangerous weapon, he may be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to seven years, or with a fine.
