Florida | Tribunal confirma cadena perpetua para Pablo Ibar

Miami (AFP) – Un tribunal de apelaciones del estado de Florida rechazó la celebración de un nuevo juicio para Pablo Ibar, un ciudadano hispano-estadounidense condenado a cadena perpetua en 2019 por un triple asesinato que niega haber cometido, informó este jueves una organización que lucha por su puesta en libertad.

La corte estadounidense desestimó el recurso presentado en febrero por el abogado de Ibar, en el que se afirmaba que su juicio anterior había estado "plagado de errores" que perjudicaron a su cliente.

El acusado "plantea 12 cuestiones, ninguna de las cuales merece una revocación", indica la sentencia emitida el miércoles por el tribunal del cuarto distrito de apelación de Florida, en el sureste de Estados Unidos.

Ibar, de 50 años, lleva casi tres décadas en prisión por el asesinato en junio de 1994 de Casimir Sucharsky, dueño de un club nocturno, y de dos bailarinas, Marie Rodgers y Sharon Anderson, en la casa nocturna del empresario en Miramar, cerca de Miami.

Poco tiempo antes, Sucharsky había instalado en el salón de su domicilio una cámara de vigilancia que grabó el triple asesinato.

En las imágenes borrosas, dos individuos matan a las tres víctimas, y uno de ellos se quita la camiseta que le cubre el rostro, se seca el sudor y se vuelve hacia la cámara. La Fiscalía estadounidense siempre aseguró que ese joven era Ibar.

El acusado, condenado a la pena capital en el 2000, pasó 16 años en el corredor de la muerte hasta que el Tribunal Superior de Florida declaró nulo su juicio por considerar que las pruebas eran "débiles y escasas" y que no había tenido una defensa aceptable.

No se registró ningún hallazgo de ADN de Ibar en la escena del crimen; y el cabello, las huellas y la sangre encontrados por los investigadores en la casa no se correspondían con los del acusado.

En 2019, un jurado popular volvió a condenar a Ibar por los asesinatos, pero esta vez a cadena perpetua. Durante el juicio, la Fiscalía añadió a sus pruebas incriminatorias una pequeña muestra de ADN del acusado en la camiseta del joven de la grabación, hallada en la casa de Sucharsky.

La defensa de Ibar sostiene que la presencia de ese ADN es fruto de una contaminación accidental después de que la camiseta fuera conservada por la Policía en una bolsa desprecintada y en mal estado.
