Reverend Dr. Jeff Hood, 40, lives with his wife and five children in Little Rock, Arkansas. But away from his normal home life, he can suddenly find himself holding the shoulder of a murderer inside an execution chamber, moments away from the end of their life. 

Iran | 2 Executions in Qazvin, Man Executed in Gorgan, Man Executed in Zanjan

Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); February 13, 2023: Behzad Alirezaei and Ahmad Samari, two men sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for murder, were executed in Qazvin Central Prison.

According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, two men were executed in Qazvin Central Prison on February 13. Their identities have been established as Behzad Alirezaei and Ahmad Samari who were sentenced to qisas for murder.

An informed source told Iran Human Rights: “They were transferred to solitary confinement in preparation for their executions on Saturday. Behzad Alirezaei was accused of murder during a group fight. But he rejected the charges and said five others were in that fight and the murder wasn’t his fault.”

At the time of writing, their executions have not been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.

Those charged with the umbrella term of “intentional murder” are sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) regardless of intent or circumstances due to a lack of grading in law. Once a defendant has been convicted, the victim’s family are required to choose between death as retribution, diya (blood money) or forgiveness.

Sirous Gholami Executed for Murder in Gorgan


Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); February 13, 2023: Sirous Gholami, a man sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for murder, was executed in Gorgan Central Prison.

According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, a man was executed in Gorgan Central Prison on February 12. His identity has been established as Sirous Gholami who was sentenced to qisas for murder.

An informed source told Iran Human Rights: “Sirous had committed the murder over financial disputes. He was transferred to solitary confinement in preparation for his execution on Wednesday afternoon and was waiting for the murdered person’s family to consent to him not being executed, but they refused.”

At the time of writing, his execution has not been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.

Ebrahim Hojatgholi Executed for Murder in Zanjan


Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); February 7, 2023: Ebrahim Hojatgholi, a man sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for murder, was executed in Zanjan Central Prison.

According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, a man was executed in Zanjan Central Prison on February 5. His identity has been established as 37-year-old Ebrahim Hojatgholi who was sentenced to qisasfor murder.

An informed source told Iran Human Rights that Esmail had a young child.

At the time of writing, his execution has not been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.
