Iran | Man Executed for Murder in Bam, 2 Executed for Murder in Sanandaj, Man Executed for Murder in Rasht

Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); July 28, 2022: Mohammadreza Arjmandi, a Baluch man sentenced to qisas for murder, was executed in Bam Prison.

According to Hal Vash, a Baluch man was executed in Bam Prison on July 27. His identity has been reported as Mohammadreza Arjmandi (Sheikihi) who was sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for murder.

At the time of writing, his execution has not been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.

According to data gathered by Iran Human Rights, at least 183 people were executed on murder charges in 2021. Those charged with the umbrella term of “intentional murder” are sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) regardless of intent or circumstances due to a lack of grading in law. Once a defendant has been convicted, the victim’s family are required to choose between death as retribution, diya (blood money) or forgiveness.

Payam Yazdani and Heyva Ahmadi Executed for Murder in Sanandaj

Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); July 28, 2022: Co-defendants Payam Yazdani and Heyva Ahmadi have been identified as two of the men executed with Soheila Abedi in Sanandaj Central Prison on July 27.

According to newly confirmed information, two men were executed in Sanandaj Central Prison on July 27. Their identities have been established as 26-year-old Payam Yazdani and 37-year-old Heyva Ahmadi, both from the village of Bisaran in Marivan.

Informed sources told Iran Human Rights: “Payam Yazdani and Heyva Ahmadi were arrested for the murder of their friend around seven years ago.”

Iran Human Rights previously reported the execution of Soheil Abedi, a child bride, at the prison on that day. Another prisoner named Abdollah Rahimi was also taken to the gallows with the executed prisoners but there is no information about his fate at this time.

At the time of writing, none of their executions have been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.

According to newly confirmed information, a third man was executed in Sanandaj Central Prison on July 27. His identity has been established as Abdollah Rahimi who was sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for murder. Abdollah Rahimi was 72 years old and had spent 14 years on death row according to Hengaw which first reported news of his execution.

At least 251 including 6 women and 67 Baluch minorities were executed in the first six months of 2022. This is double the number of executions in the same period in 2021 when 117 people were executed.

Unnamed Conscript Executed for Murder in Rasht

Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); July 28, 2022: Official sources have reported the execution of an unnamed conscript for the murder of a police officer in Rasht Central Prison.

According to Rokna, a man was executed in Rasht Central Prison on July 28. His identity has only been reported as M.F, a 27-year-old conscript who was arrested for the murder of Omid Chayi, a police officer last October and sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind).

Local websites had previously reported that the victim was in charge of the Lahijan Province Public Service Department and repeatedly denied the executed man’s request for an exemption from service.

Men above the age of 18 are required to serve 24 months of compulsory military service in Iran unless they qualify for an exemption. Failure to serve leads to being stripped of their rights. Though there are official statistics, there are many reports of suicide amongst conscripts.
