A cement truck driver was charged at the Magistrate’s Court here with the murder of his step-daughter.
No plea was recorded from Abu Hassan Darus, 30, after the charge was read to him before magistrate Tan Chai Wei.
He was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code which carries the mandatory death penalty, upon conviction.
The accused was charged with murdering Ummi Yusnani Sofea Herwan Norhadi between 3pm and 5pm at a house in Kg Halacara Baru Londah in Gemas on Feb 1.
Tan then fixed March 25 for remention pending the post-mortem examination and chemistry reports.
Ahmad Sazali Omar and Ummi Amyra Natasha Azhar prosecuted.
Police had initially received a doctor’s report from the Gemas health clinic on the victim’s death on Feb 1.
Results of a post-mortem conducted at the Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital in Seremban later found that she had suffered serious injuries to the head, bruises on her wrists and legs, and bite marks on her body.
3 of her ribs on the left side were also broken.
Dental specialists from the Kuala Lumpur Hospital also confirmed that there were adult bite marks on her right hand, shoulder and wrist.
The Forensics Department also confirmed that her head injury was caused by a blunt object.
The accused was arrested on Feb 9 while waiting for his wife and 9-year-old stepson who were called to give a statement at the police station.
He was detained after the victim’s brother told police that she was often beaten by their stepfather.
