A child killer has been sentenced to death in China wearing full PPE (personal protective equipment).

Evil Lin Jiancai was given the death penalty after he was found guilty of torturing and murdering his girlfriend's two-year-old son in 2019.

He appeared at a regional court in the north-western Chinese city of Xi'an complete with a full-body protective suit, a face mask and goggles to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.

According to a court report, Lin moved in with his girlfriend, known by her surname Xu, in November 2018. She brought her toddler son, nicknamed Tang Yuan, with her.

He often beat the baby and physically abused him.

Authorities said Lin returned home drunk on July 24, 2019 and used a chopping board and spatulas to hit Ms Xu and her son's head.

He also threw the baby to the floor while violently kicking and stamping the young child, writes the Mail Online.

Lin then killed the toddler by drowning him in a bathroom sink and forcing strong liquor into the baby's mouth. 

The child's mother suffered serious injuries in the shocking incident.

The Intermediate People's Court of Xi'an sentenced Lin to death and deprived him of political rights for life for the crime of intentional homicide.

Pictures show the child killer standing in court and wearing full PPE while receiving his sentence.

The authorities said Lin carried out the killing over "trivial matters", without specifying the man's motive.

The court said in a statement: "The defendant Lin Jiancai used cruel methods to kill the victim after being drunk only because of trivial matters.

"His crime was particularly bad and the consequences were particularly serious."

It remains unclear when the execution will be carried out.

Executions in China are usually carried out by lethal injection or occasionally by firing squad.
