Two men were publicly hanged in the town of “Shahr Babak” (Kerman province, Southeastern Iran) Tuesday morning June 9, reported Iranian state media. The prisoners who were not identified by name were convicted of raping a woman, said the report.

The report also said that more than 4,000 people watched the executions. Pictures published by the Iranian media show several children among the public. This is contrary to what Javad Larijani, head of the human rights council of the Judiciary recently had claimed in a written response to the UN Special raporteurs Ahmed Shaheed and Christopher Heyns. Iranian media also reported about the execution of one woman convicted of murdering her husband. Jam News reported that the woman was 32 years old. The report didn’t state the exact day of the execution. But the group “Human rights and democracy activists in Iran” reported about the execution of two prisoners on June 8 in Ghezelhesar prison of Karaj (West of Tehran).

One man was hanged in the prison of Ghaemshahr on June 8. The state run Fars news agency reported that the prisoner who was identified as “M. K.” was charged with murder.
