Iran executes two drug traffickers

Azerbaijan, Baku, Sept. 10 /Trend/ - Two Iranians were executed for possession and sale of four kilograms of heroin in the city of Sari in Mazandaran province, ISNA quoted the chief prosecutor of the city Sari Khujatulislam Jafari as saying.

According to the France-Presse, 171 people have been executed in Iran since early 2011.

From December 20, 2010 to January 30, 2011 alone, the Islamic Republic of Iran has executed over 118 individuals while many more await to face the gallows. In recent years, Iran has had the highest rate of executions per capita in the world.

Under Iranian laws, the death penalty can be used for murder, rape, adultery, armed robbery, homosexuality and drug smuggling.
