Saudi Arabia: Bangladeshi beheaded over Syrian’s murder

Riyadh: Saudi Arabia on Saturday beheaded a Bangladeshi convicted of murdering a Syrian man by bludgeoning him with a hammer before stabbing him, the interior ministry said.

Madhaheb Shanadra had been found guilty of beating Nabeel Al Awdat on his “head with a hammer before stabbing and slaughtering him with a knife due to a dispute,” said the ministry, quoted by the official SPA news agency.

The execution brings to 66 the number of people put to death in Saudi Arabia so far this year, according to an AFP tally based on official reports.

Amnesty International says 79 people were executed in the kingdom last year.

Rape, murder, apostasy, armed robbery, homosexuality and drug trafficking are all punishable by death under its Sharia law.
